Waterproofing Stage Inspections Melbourne

A Waterproofing Inspection is carried out after waterproofing membranes have been applied, but before tiling or final finishes are installed in wet areas such as bathrooms, laundries, balconies, and other moisture-exposed spaces. This stage is critical, as waterproofing systems become concealed once finishes are applied and are difficult and costly to rectify later.

During this inspection, we assess the installation of waterproofing membranes, including substrate preparation, membrane coverage, terminations, junctions, penetrations, and detailing. Where applicable, falls to drains and interfaces with adjacent building elements are also reviewed, in line with relevant standards and manufacturer requirements.

Waterproofing defects are a common source of long-term issues in residential construction. An independent inspection at this stage helps identify concerns early, reducing the risk of leaks, moisture ingress, and damage that may not become apparent until well after occupancy.

In many cases, a Waterproofing Inspection is completed in conjunction with a Fix Stage Inspection, as both stages often occur before final finishes and fit-off are completed. Reviewing waterproofing alongside internal workmanship allows moisture protection systems and surrounding finishes to be assessed within the same site visit, providing continuity across internal stages of the build.

However, depending on the type of build, sequencing of works, or client preference, waterproofing inspections may be carried out separately. This is particularly common where waterproofing is completed earlier, staged across multiple areas, or requires dedicated assessment before other fixing elements proceed.

The timing of the Waterproofing Inspection is determined by the construction program and the specific requirements of the project, ensuring that waterproofing systems are reviewed when they are most accessible and before they are concealed.

A detailed written report is provided following the inspection, outlining observations with photographic evidence and practical explanations. This supports informed decision-making and allows any identified issues to be addressed before tiling or final finishes are installed.
